Post Summary: The primary purpose of this post is to contribute to general and shared nursing teaching within the undergraduate degree programme in nursing in the School. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and will have engaged in scholarly activities. Furthermore, they will be able to undertake academic administrative work. While they will primarily contribute to the undergraduate programme, they will also undertake postgraduate teaching, supervision and mentoring as designated by the Head of School.
Context: The school requires a candidate to contribute to, and grow, the teaching activity primarily within the general and shared areas of the nursing and midwifery programmes. The candidate will help to support and develop existing curricula at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across programmes. The successful candidate will require a depth of knowledge relevant to general and shared nursing.
- Main Responsibilities: TeachingContribute to and provide academic leadership in all teaching and related activities in the School and College at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as required.
- Deliver high-class teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and participate in the development of new, relevant and evidence-based options.
- Carry out supervision of students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Undertake assessment of learning across designated programmes.
- Standard Duties Contribute towards the future development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Assume administrative roles pertaining to course management in the School of Nursing & Midwifery, appropriate to the level of appointment.
- Carry out other responsibilities including audit, external quality assessment and administration as advised by the Head of School or their nominee.
Person Requirements The role-holder will require the following knowledge, skills and attributes for successful performance in the role.
- Qualifications:M.Sc. in Nursing, Midwifery or related field (Essential)
- Registered General Nurse or eligibility to register as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). (Essential)
- Registered, or eligible to register on the Tutor’s division with the NMBI or hold an equivalent teaching and learning qualification (Desirable)
- Ideally a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in midwifery practice (Desirable)
Garda Clearance: Police vetting will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for this post.
Post status: 3 Year Fixed-Term Contract Salary: This appointment will be made on the Teaching Fellow Merged Pay Scale Annual Rate (€42,500 -€54,139 pro-rata) at a point in line with current Government pay policy. https://www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly-academic.pdf Hours of work for academic staff are those as prescribed under Public Service Agreements.
