Job Summary

Position: Specialty Grade Doctor – Ophthalmology

Applications are invited from suitably qualified ophthalmologists for a substantive, full-time position at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will contribute to a comprehensive clinical service including outpatient clinics, high-volume cataract surgery, and Eye Casualty sessions. The role involves participation in extended services, including evening and weekend rotas.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide general ophthalmology services
  • Deliver high-volume cataract surgery
  • Participate in outpatient clinics and inpatient services
  • Undertake Eye Casualty sessions
  • Contribute to evening and weekend extended services on a rota basis
  • Participate in departmental management duties
  • Support audit and research activities
  • Work collaboratively within a busy ophthalmic teaching department

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration

  • FRCOphth Part 1 or equivalent

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 4 years at StR level in Ophthalmology or equivalent

  • Relevant ophthalmic procedural skills including:

    • YAG laser

    • Retinal laser

    • Intravitreal injections

  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit or research

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals

Eligibility & Legal Info

Work Authorization

  • Must have current UK professional registration (GMC)

  • Subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

  • Must meet UKVI Skilled Worker requirements if sponsorship is required
