Job Summary
Working full time, 10 sessions per week, this is a substantive Consultant in Elderly Medicine post. The department has expanded to thirteen geriatricians and supports service development in comprehensive elderly care.
The role supports Acute Frailty services and may involve direct or subspecialty support. The Trust is an RCP Future Hospital exemplar site focused on transforming urgent care pathways in partnership with community and social care providers.
The post holder will also have a significant educational role within a strong Medical Education department.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct regular ward rounds on inpatient frailty ward and attend daily MDTs
Act as named consultant for 14 inpatients plus outliers, approximately 0 to 4 additional patients
Review approximately 300 to 350 patients per month
Deliver general elderly clinic and one subspecialty clinic based on candidate interest such as movement disorders, falls, stroke, or community care
Manage indicative clinic workload of 8 new patients and 32 reviews per month within a weekly 3 hour clinic
Provide front door acute geriatrician sessions supporting the emergency department, rapid response team, and acute physicians
Supervise junior doctors
Attend and contribute to specialty and departmental meetings
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
GMC registration with Licence to practice
MRCP or equivalent
Dual CCST in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, or within 6 months of interview, or alternative route to specialist register such as CESR
Advanced Life Support certification
Wide clinical experience in general internal medicine and medicine for older people
Experience or interest in teaching
Understanding of management skills
Desirable
MD, MSc, or PhD
Recognised teaching qualification
Experience in audit
Relevant research and publications
Change management training
